Abstract
A review of research on leadership in the context of the competence approach is presented. It is shown that within the framework of the competence approach, leadership competence is considered both as an important part of professional competence, since leadership competencies ensure the successful activity of specialists in various fields (managerial, pedagogical, psychological, etc.), and as a partial diffuse element of communicative competence, since the essence of this competence is reflected in a number of leadership abilities and qualities. It is shown that the competence-based approach to leadership is a natural result of the complication of the content of this phenomenon. The consistency of the competency-based approach to leadership with the most noticeable trends in the interpretation of its content in modern psychology (leadership as service, leadership as responsibility, etc.) and with changing standards of educational practice is also shown.
