The article is devoted to the study of innovativeness in the context of the problem of adaptation of the first-year students in the University. During the consideration of the main factors affecting the adaptability of a student, the author put forward an assumption about the relationship between the level of innovativeness of a person and the adaptability of students. A sample of the study was composed of 221 students from Irkutsk State University. Significant positive correlations between the innovative potential, the innovative activity of the individual and the scales of methods for identifying the adaptation of freshmen at the university were established by the means of the correlation analysis. 67 % of respondents have a higher level of manifestation of innovativeness than average and they successfully adapt to the conditions of the university. 33 % of students demonstrate low results, that is, for them the process of adaptation at the University is still in development.
