Specificity of a Semantic Layer of the Image of the World in the Minds of Chinese and Russian Students: Findings of the Associative Experiment

Abstract
The article deals with the study of a semantic layer of the image of the world in Chinese and Russian students. The aim of the study was to reveal specificity of the semantic layer in relation to ethno-cultural identity. A three-layer model of the image of the world by V. P. Serkin was taken as a theoretical basis. A group associative experiment was used as a research method. Chinese and Russian students were asked to respond to a proposition-stimulus giving words coming immediately to their minds using free associations. On the basis of the theory the author summarized the findings and made a major conclusion that specificity of the semantic layer of the image of the world in Chinese students is its being “introverted” and the focus on personal attitude to objects of the perceptual world. While the semantic layer of the world of Russian students is “extraverted” with the focus on signification of objects of the perceptual world
