Abstract
The article deals with the correlation of specific attitude to conflict situations and behavioral response to them on the conflict type (sudden/prolonged, with threat/humiliation) in persons having affective disorders and with normal behavior. It has been shown that persons with affective disorders more frequently identify themselves with a victim in conflicts involving dignity humiliation, and with an aggressor in prolonged conflicts involving physical threat. Patients have difficulty interpreting situations concerned with interpersonal interaction and tend to pick antisocial strategies in the face of physical threat. Negative response of persons with normal behavior is related with suddenness and threat to life. Findings support hypotheses about the role of type of a conflict in forming emotions and response strategies emphasizing the need to take into account these factors to prevent and correct maladaptive behavior of patients.
