Views of Adolescent with Intellectual Disabilities (a Mental Handicap) and Their Parents Concerning Internet Security

Abstract
The article considers theoretical approaches to the challenging issue of online safety for adolescents with intellectual disabilities (a mental handicap). It has been justified that parents’ control is a key factor in ensuring the safety of adolescent on the Internet. There are significant differences between the attitude of adolescents with mental disabilities concerning an access, time, benefit, danger and threat, safety, responsibility for adolescent’s online safety, and that of their parents. It was concluded that intellectually challenged adolescents’ (with mental handicap) attitude to personal safety on the Internet pertains cognitive, social, psychological and pedagogical peculiarities of the age, as well as specificity of the disability (a mental handicap) itself, particularly, inflated self-esteem, disturbance of critical thinking, inability to fulfil a valid analysis of the situation.
