Psychological Media Competence: a Meta-Level Model

Abstract
There is a necessity to introduce the concept of «psychological media competence» into a psychological research vocabulary and to identify its place among semantically close concepts «media culture», «media competence», «psychological culture», «psychological competence». It’s argued that the category under study has an interdisciplinary status. It is of vital importance for the psychology of education and personality development. The authors argue in favor of efficiency of the cultural-psychological and psycho-semiotic approaches to the study of the processes of psychic transformations predetermined by new types of sign codes. The definition of psychological media competence has been proposed its meta-level model has been presented, and its components have been explained. The structural components of psychological media competence have been described. The criteria for assessing level of its development have been marked out.
