A Quarter of a Century with Gustav Shpet: Dissertation Research and Historiographical Approaches

Abstract
In order to solve the problem of identifying modern historiographical approaches to characterizing G. G. Shpet's contribution to the development of psychology of the first quarter of 20th century, an analysis of candidate and doctoral dissertations about it defended in 1999–2024 has been carried out. The specifics of the implemented approaches are revealed in varying degrees of attention paid to the subject-logical, socio-historical and personalistic aspects of the development of psychology in the scientific work of G. G. Shpet. The authors focus primarily on the subject-logical aspect and reconstruct the ‘intellectual history of psychology.’ At the same time researchers’ attention to all three aspects of psychology’s development determines the prospects for applying a systemic ap- proach in historiography. This will be facilitated by greater attention to the study of G. G. Shpet's personality and his scientific journey.
