Life’s Calling as a Factor of Psychological Health of Older Persons

Abstract
The relationship between the value of “life calling” and psychological health and personal resources in elderly people is examined. A theoretical analysis of the problem of life's calling shows that a person's desire to realize one's calling promotes the integration and harmonization of the system of life-meaning orientations, which creates conditions for a sense of meaningfulness and satisfaction with one's life in old age. The results of the empirical study show that older people who attach importance to the value of “life calling” are characterized by a higher level of psychological health and the expression of personal resources: resilience, the potential for self-change and subjective life orientation. Thus, the value of “life’s calling” can act as a leading component of the harmonious hierarchical structure of the meaning of life.
