The paper presents the results of the study carried out by the stuffers of The Laboratory of Psycho-Economic and Cross-Cultural Studies at Irkutsk State University. The main goal of the research is the search for mechanisms to improve demography, ecology, and life quality of people living in urban and rural areas. Special attention has been paid to preventing youth from leaving rural territories. The author identified and analyzed in detail groups of socio-psychological factors of changes of life quality in urban and rural areas. The study results may serve as a basis for development programs of the territories concerned. Findings from other author’s studies concerning such Russian cities as Abakan, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Kyzyl, Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Chita, and Yakutsk have been used in this work. The total number of respondents is about 2000 people.
