A considerable impact of the issue of the attitude to social competition on behavior and psychological adaptation of an individual proves its timeliness and social relevance. The researches make a point that internal competition strategies affect the whole life of an individual determining a particular level of adaptation and adaptation potential. The paper discusses the results of the empirical study of achievement and social approval motivation, as well as dominant orientation of university students with various personality types in relation to social competition. The author provided a general quantitative and qualitative content analysis of the study results. The results throw into question a long held belief that persons of coronary personality type have higher achievement motivation and demonstrate low adaptation capabilities of this personality type.
