The paper briefly described the current state of the psychological study of professionally important skills of people working in various areas of material production including railway workers. The author provides rationalization for a set of diagnostic methods for examining professionally important skills of railway locomotive drivers based on the analysis of job profile description and psychic profile of this category of employees. The importance of training effect has been explained as it is during training that most favorable conditions for self-exploration and self-development of every group member are laid down stimulating development of professionally important skills mentioned above. Primary results of training program testing have been presented. Work during the training improved measure of emotional well-being, affective tolerance, ability to cope with stress, memory, and thinking of railway locomotive drivers.
