Age-Dependent Variation of Coping with Negative Situations during Adolescence

Abstract

The paper is concerned withage-dependent of coping with negative situations with regard to personality traits of senior pupils during adolescence. Theoretical analysis of the literature has been given to study the approaches to defining the terms “koping” (coping) and “coping behavior”, and their correlation. The results of the researches of Russian and foreign authors studying age peculiarities of coping behavior in adolescent age were considered. The research revealed age changes in correlations between the indices of basic ways of coping with negative situations and the rate of manifestation of personality attributes of students in grades 10 and 11. Ways to cope with negative situations change with age, with variation of ways increasing. The tendency is to choose adaptive coping ways during adolescence.
