Psychological Aspects of the Perceptions of Subjective Loneliness (The Study of the Sample of Russian Citizens)

Abstract
The article presents the results of the study of perceptions of subjective loneliness by Russian citizens. The sampling included 146 people, 51 of whom were men and 95 women. The age of the respondents was 17-46, so the average age was 32. The content analysis method has revealed main criteria indicating that subjective loneliness is perceived as abandonment and powerlessness with negative emotions prevailing. Experiencing real loneliness, the subjects are prone to reflect about their immediate environment. Subjects’ thoughts of loneliness they are likely to experience in the future are associated with the feeling of fear and the urge to avoid possible loneliness. Reluctance to become aware of the causes behind the feeling of loneliness and the urge to avoid this feeling leads to greater negative feelings when respondents actually experienced it.
