Self-Acceptance as a Subjective Attribute

Abstract
The article gives a brief theoretical review of studies of self-acceptance phenomenon by Russian and foreign psychologists. The author highlights the problem of the shift in understanding the concept of self-acceptance as an active process in favor passive self-acceptance, which often leads to intrapersonal regress, personality stagnation. The study focused on self-acceptance in the context of a subject-based approach. Based on the main provisions about a subject, in accordance with transforming activities of a subject, the author identified two types of self-acceptance – passive and active one. The author points out that it is active self-acceptance that is an actor’s attribute, and is related to such features of a subject as subject’s activity, integrity, autonomy, self-value. The empirical study has revealed the relation of self-acceptance to a general level of the development of personal agency and subject’s attributes.
