Abstract

A person’s identity is formed during the growing-up process through his/her interaction with other people. The uniqueness of personality and social identity are formed at one of the basic institutions of socialization – school. The content of a pupil’s identity is being generated under the influence of the identities of grown-ups and their perceptions of pupils’ identity. In Russian psychology little research has been done on the consistency of the teacher's identity as well as his/her perception of schoolchildren. The aim of the research is to reveal the components of teachers’ identity and teachers’ perception of students' identity. The research methods are the method of unfinished sentences, thematic coding of texts, content analysis. The results have shown that the content of teachers' identity is much more different and richer than their perception of pupils’ identity. Social identity of teachers is represented by a large amount of components in comparison to teachers’ perception of students' identity. The practice of real interactions has shown that the groups of “teachers” and “students” treat each other as outgroups. At the same time, the enrichment and expansion of the content of all components of teachers’ identity seem to be the priority direction in which the formation of students’ personality takes place. The discovered area of differences between teachers' identity and their perception of pupils’ identity has made it possible to study the process of teacher-students interaction as a resource for the formation of components of pupils’ identity as well as the content enrichment of the components of teachers' identity.
