Activity Patriotism as a Socio-Cultural Phenomenon

Author(s)
V. A. Reshetnikov, E. V. Reshetnikova
Abstract

The paper examines patriotism as a socio-cultural phenomenon. The nature of patriotism is sophisticated and multi-dimensional. The specificity principle avoids abstracting and hypostatizing patriotism. The subject-activity concept by S. L. Rubistein provides the methodological background for the study. The activity approach serves as a framework for considering vital manifestations of patriotism through helping relationships in the objective environment. The author emphasized the need to move from contemplative humanism to activity humanism. Findings of empirical studies of patriotism have been analyzed concluding that proximal environment is vitally important for forming humanism. According to the authors, it includes family, working or studying crew, public and voluntary organizations. The authors raised the issue of strengthening state support for fostering Russian youth patriotism.
