Abstract

The results of the empirical study showed that interpersonal behavior of the members of both generations was more adaptive in the context of virtual communication in social networks compared to real off-line interaction. The difference between «real me» and «virtual me» profiles has statistical significance for GenY members. GenZ members are more congruous and their real and network profiles are practically identical. Comparison of impression management strategies of social network users has shown that «anxiety to please» (desire to take on, win one’s favor, social-approval mindset is actualized in this case) is higher in GenY members, while the «tracking the impression produced» strategy (importance of the impression produced on those around and attempts to change one’s behavior under this influence) in generation Z.
