In the foreign mass media and on the Internet Greta Thunberg stands high as a defender of the Earth. Many of her demands though are unrealizable due to lack of nature-aligned technologies and a sufficient level of ecologic patriotism. The paper presents the results of a socio-psychological study aimed at exploring ways of thinking of Buryatia and Irkutsk Region youth about G. Thunberg’s activity on environmental protection and the possibility of her influence on ecological initiative development in the Baikal region. The author revealed a positive correlation between a positive attitude to G. Thunberg’s activity and such components of ecological patriotism as protecting the home of respondents, concerns for the environment of the region, area, district. The author came to the conclusion that there is an urgent need in involving local people in solving ecological problems combining national and regional interests with globalization advantages as much as possible.
