Virtual Reality Technologies: Existential Aspects

Abstract
Overriding aspects of virtual realityare considered in terms of fundamental motivations of human existence. Differences of real and virtual “existence-in-the world” are discussed, as well as positive and negative effects resulting from the contact with virtual reality. Computer and computer environment are shown to have a deep impact on a personality on the whole. Aspects of this influence, however, are not fully studied yet. Basing on existential analysis background, specific features of manifestation of existence fundamental motivations associated with person’s interaction with virtual reality are considered. The importance of self-understanding and holistic worldview as an individual system of world models basing on real rather than social practices is emphasized.
